The Year In Review
2008 - What a year. Let me just say it here, lest we forget, God is good! - All the time. Sometimes it’s hard to comprehend what He is doing, but I have learned to lean on Him at all times and trust in Him.
This year has been a year of ups and downs, times when it looked like we couldn’t fail; times it looked like we couldn’t proceed. Staff - coming and going, finances - up and down, clients choosing life - and death. Then a dark and despairing time, yet a time of rejoicing. For God to call Jill home and away from us, hurt. What was His plan? What was He thinking? Didn’t He know we would miss her? Didn’t He know we needed her? Had He forgotten Scott and Bryce?
While this was our time of despairing, it was Jill’s time of rejoicing. She was with the Lord!! What better place to be? The time we all long for – to be able to run and jump and sing and dance and celebrate in His presence, no barriers, no more faith walk called for. REALITY – LIFE WITH CHRIST!!! Praise the Lord!
I was supposed to take this space to tell you about our finances and how you can help. But God has called me to share the Good News. He is alive and well. He is working in Union, Columbia and Ouachita County. His people will prosper. Set aside your worldly ways, turn to Him. If you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, call us - we’ll introduce you to Him. We could not have made it through this past year alone. We’ve always depended on Him but this year we clung to Him - with our lives. And He has provided, supported, matured, inspired, stimulated, enriched, expanded, uplifted and blessed us. He is everything to us, and our redeeming work is to share Him with you and others.
My first scripture memorization after salvation was Matthew 6:33. “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all of these things shall be added unto you.”
I didn’t know what “things”, and they have been different over the years, but let me tell you, seeking God fulfills my heart, comforts my soul and enables me to live in this world - for this time. I share this scripture today to encourage you, in the midst of your circumstance, seek God.
God Bless you.

Year End Giving
The year is drawing to a close and and now is a good time to "make-good" on any commitments you have made to charitable organizations. The government has chosen to give those of us who are charitably inclined the great benefit of being able to deduct our contributions to 501(c)3 organizations from our income, reducing our tax liability.
Contributions to your church, your local homeless shelter, relief organizations, and other entities involved in charitable endeavors are all deductible on your tax return. In any given year you can deduct up to 50% of your adjusted gross income for charitable giving. If you give away appreciated assets, you are limited to 30% of adjusted gross income. The good news is that if you want to give away more than 50% of your income in cash or more than 30% of your income in assets, you can carry your giving forward into years where you may not be able to give the maximum.
For the most part, Americans are ungenerous. While we are one of the most charitable countries in the world with our personal income, the percentage of income that the average American gives away is only 3.2%. We are (still) one of the richest countries in the world, and we give only a token amount of our great wealth away.
As Christians our primary responsibility to give is to our local church, and then to give to other organizations that are worthy. The Hannah Medical Center is one of those worthy organizations. It is an explicitly Christian organization that seeks to communicate Christ's love by providing life-affirming services to women facing pregnancy decisions and by upholding biblical standards for sexual integrity. I have had the privilege of being on the board of the Hannah Medical center for the past year. Jill Attebery was the Chair, and was passionate about what the Hannah Medical Center stands for. It would honor her memory to support a cause that she was passionate about.
